Exploding onto the live scene midway through 2003 THE STABS have been consistently shocking and rocking ever since with their high energy style of music disguised as mayhem. The three members of THE STABS each bring different tastes and influences to the table, which end up in the melting pot to form one of Melbourne's most exciting live bands today. One thing they all have in common is a love for good songwriting and pop sensibilities with a healthy appetite for swampy feedback and noise.
At the beginning of 2004 the band released their first single, 200 numbered copies of a 7" on Melbourne label Weather Records titled Wading b/w That's It. The record went into a second pressing almost immediately.
Midway through 2005 Detroit label Cass Records, run by Dirtbombs member Ben Blackwell issued a second 7" titled The Woods/Six Foot Rodent packaged in screen printed, hand sewn cloth covers.
THE STABS' debut album ‘Dirt’ marks the first time their deranged sludge rock is available on a digital format. ‘Dirt’ is released February 13 on Melbourne label Art School Dropout via Reverberation.
Kicking off mid March the band will tour the USA, playing shows which will include album launches for Mudhoney in Seattle and Portland.
“They sound like Thurston Moore reviewing The Birthday Party” Ben Blackwell (The Dirtbombs/Cass Records)
“Think of an angrier, fuzzier Mudhoney and you’ll be in close proximity” Chris Grier (Mess and Noise/To Live and Shave in LA)
“Think The Scientists jamming with The Dream Syndicate aboard an out of control school bus.” Nicky Shutdown (Shutdown 66/Corduroy Records)
