Frequently Asked Questions

Question:
How do I update my contact information with PBS?

Answer:
Email the PBS Membership Coordinator membership@pbsfm.org.au or call 8415 1067 during business hours (10am - 6pm weekdays) and speak to one of our friendly receptionists.

Question:
Can I podcast PBS programs?

Answer:
A podcast of special extended interviews is available from The Breakfast Spread. Why only interviews? Podcasts (i.e. downloads by subscription) that include commercially available music are not available because of the high costs of licensing such music for download. Legally, downloading is completely different from streaming. Streaming our live broadcast or archived programs does not save a file to your device or computer, and the precedent for licensed radio stations to do this is well established and affordable.

Question:
How do I find out more about music played on a program?

Answer:

  1. Go to the Program Guide
  2. Find the program that matches the day/time
  3. Follow the link to the program page
  4. Click the 'Playlists' tab
  5. If you can't find the playlist or the details you need, use the email link to contact the announcer directly, and give as much info as you can to help them answer your enquiry.

Question:
How can I speak to an announcer?

Answer:
Call PBS during the program, and wait for music break. Since broadcasting involves multi-tasking and concentration, announcers may be not able to accommodate a long conversation.

Question:
How do I get my gig plugged on PBS?

Answer:
Due to the diversity of programming, PBS does not have one standard gig guide. However, some PBS announcers maintain their own. Find the program most suited to your music and email the announcer directly using the contact details on the program page. It is essential that you know that PBS is unable to guarantee that announcers will plug your gig.

Question:
How do I get my music played on PBS?

Answer:
We have a page dedicated to info on getting airplay.

Question:
I'm a member. Can I have a look around the station?

Answer:
Yes. PBS (47 Easey Street, Collingwood) is open to members to come and snoop around on Fridays at 2pm. Otherwise, we hold an Open Day twice a year, and you'll hear about them on PBS.

Question:
I'd like to obtain paid work at PBS. Where do you advertise?

Answer:
Paid employment opportunities in community radio are rare. From time to time, positions may become available. PBS lists vacant positions in Artshub, Beat and Inpress, and here on our website.

Question:
How do I volunteer at PBS?

Answer:
See our page about volunteering.

Question:
How do I win prizes?

Answer:
Listen to PBS, have your PBS member card ready, and when the presenter announces a giveaway, phone (+61 3) 8415 1067. Please don't call while you're driving!

Question:
How frequently can I call to win prizes?

Answer:
You can only win a prize once every three months.

Question:
How can I collect my prize?

Answer:
Collect from PBS (47 Easey Street, Collingwood) anytime Monday-Friday 10am-6pm. Please present your member card upon collection.
