This year’s edition stars Candice Monique, Florelie Escano, Chelsea Wilson, Lisa Faithfull (Soul Safari), Christina Arnold (The Perfections) and May Johnston. Plus, making her debut Women of Soul appearance, the divine Stella Angelico.
Backed by Melbourne’s hard¬‐hitting Hammond combo Deep Street Soul, get ready to shake and shimmy to hard hitting funk, sweet soul and deep rhythm and blues with Melbourne’s sassiest divas.
Paying tribute to the female legends of soul such as Etta James, Esther Phillips and Aretha Franklin, each vocalist will perform a mix of their own original songs as well as some classic tunes from the Stax, Motown and Chess record labels to get the dance floor rocking.
Women of Soul started in 2010 through a chance meeting between Randa Khamis (Randa and the Soul Kingdom) and Chelsea Wilson (PBS FM’s Music Manager and ‘Jazz Got Soul’ show producer/presenter) who decided to team up for a soul revue style show using the same backing band. The show grew to a sell out residency in 2011, 2012 and 2013 featuring a plethora of powerhouse vocalists including Clairy Browne, Kylie Auldist and Shirley Davis, as well as interstate guests including Michelle Martinez (Sydney), Alphahamama (Sydney).
Now in its in fourth year, Women of Soul is known as an event in the Melbourne soul music calendar not to be missed!
