PBS and The Melbourne International Jazz Festival presented the world premiere performance of “Māyā” by Gian Slater in a sold-out concert on Friday 29th May.

Gian Slater was the 2015 winner of the PBS Young Elder of Jazz Commission. This is an annual PBS initiative promoting innovation and excellence in jazz composition.

The aim of the Commission is to provide support for composers at a pivotal point in their career, and to encourage creative flair and distinction in the jazz idiom. The PBS Young Elder of Jazz Commission is an initiative of PBS 106.7 FM, in association with the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, and is generously supported by Mark Newman.

This outstanding performance was broadcast on Jazz on Saturday on Saturday June 6 at 9:30am, and you can listen back to it here in two parts.
