Fronted by powerhouse vocalist, Lucy Wilson, The Sugarcanes are a Melbourne five piece soul rock band that emerged from an era of hard rock and are now looking into the past to find their inspiration. They have tuned in to America in the 1960s when the political and social issues facing the country were so large that music's role was to bring people together and ensure everybody had a good time.

It’s this purpose that gives The Sugarcanes their motivation. They make music to bring everybody to the dance floor; your sister, your mother, your grandfather; even that weird Boo Radley kid from across the street.

The bands influences span the entire collection of Stax Records artists, from Otis Redding to Wendy Rene, as well as some old and new favourites thrown in the mix like Etta James and Alabama Shakes. To date they’ve recorded a self-titled EP and even had the opportunity to record a live performance of their single Oh Darling at 702 ABC Sydney for Evenings with Dom Knight. In the past few months they’ve been honing their skills on stages at Beechworth Music Festival and Melbourne’s own Toff In Town alongside incredible bands including The Bennies, Mojo Juju and Skyscraper Stan & The Commission Flats. And soon they’ll be ready to step into the recording studio and set some fresh new tunes down on wax for their debut album."
