The UpStart Award is a privately funded initiative, which will grant $10,000 to an emerging Victorian singer-songwriter to fund recording, touring, promotion and other career development goals.

There is no corporate angle whatsoever – the award is fully funded by a Melbourne based music loving family.

The UpStart award is all about supporting the development of talented songwriters and performers who just need a leg up in the early stage of their career.

Applications open NOW and close on 31st August 2017, with the winner to be announced in mid-November at “Face the Music” held by The Push.

The award will be adjudicated by a panel of artists including Davey Lane and Ainslie Wills, and a range of industry experts from community radio and other relevant fields including PBS announcers Myles O’Neill Shaw and David Heard.

Panel member Ainslie Wills said “It is so important for emerging artists to get recognition and support for good work as it so often feels like you are alone when you are just starting out. Upstart is doing a great thing for such artists”.

Fellow panel member Davey Lane adds “I’m beyond thrilled to be involved with Upstart’s singer-songwriter award. Songwriting’s my number one passion – it’s a compulsion, it keeps me sane and sometimes it’s even my job. I look forward to hearing from the state’s finest emerging writers and no doubt learning from the process”.
