Show #203 - Davey Lane + Jep And Dep

Artist | Track/Song Name | Album Title | Label/Distibutor | Comments

Opening Theme: Eilen Jewell | Radio City | Queen Of The Minor Key

1. Chase | Livin' In Heat | Chase
- Chase were led by former Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman trumpet player Bill Chase but were more jazz-rock. This is from their first album, released in 1971.
2. Chicago | In The Country | Chicago (AKA Chicago II)
- Another slice of Jazz-Rock. This is taken from Chicago's 2nd album which isn't as consistent as their classic debut album, Chicago Transit Authority but there are several gems including this one. Their albums after this slowly went down the road of Adult Contemporary pop but their first 2 albums are worth checking out.
3. Lance Ferguson | Spiral | Raw Material
- This is taken from Lance's first album under his own name. It's a concept album where he wrote and produced 12 original recordings which he gave to producers around the world who were able to sample them however they liked to create a new track. The album consists of one disc of the original tracks and one of the newly sample tracks. This one is from the former and definitely has a jazz-rock feel.
4. Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity | Why (Am I Treated So Bad)? | Open
- Although their best known for their great cover of Bob Dylan's This Wheel's On Fire, this is a great bluesy soul take on a tune penned by Pops Staples and is included on their debut album together, released in 1967.

5. La Bastard | Between You And Me | PBS Studio 5 Live Session
- Taken from their PBS Studio 5 session recorded in July on Radio City. Playing at the Live N Local event, Beat Presents Southside Twang and Soul. It's happening this Saturday night @ Starward Distillery in Port Melbourne with Sid O'Neill from The Vasco Era and Emilee South.
6. Rocket Science | Copycat | Welcome Aboard The 3C10
- From this great Melbourne band's debut album, released way back in 2000. Playing @ The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre's Winter Benefit Bash at The Gasometer on Aug 25th. Also featuring RVG, Magnets and Hi-Tec Emotions.
7. Sand Pebbles | Green God | Pleasure Maps
- This is from the Melbourne band's 6th album and first in 6 years. There will be an in-store performance at Basement Discs on Aug 25th and the album launch is on Aug 26th @ The Spotted Mallard w/Amaya Laucirica.
8. Spiritualized | I Think I'm In Love | Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
- Taken from Spiritualized's 3rd album, from 1997. Spiritualized are playing as part of Supersense @ Hamer Hall on Sunday night. They'll be playing with the Australian Art Orchestra and the Consort of Melbourne.

9. Pretenders | Precious | Pretenders
- Pretenders have just announced that they'll be supporting Stevie Nicks on a tour of Australia. They'll be playing at Rod Laver Arena on Nov 16th & A Day On The Green in the Yarra Valley on Nov 18th. Just a good excuse really to play this great tune off their classic debut album from 1979.
10. The Courtneys | Country Song | The Courtneys II
- This Canadian trio are playing at The Curtin Hotel on Aug 24th w/Hollow Everdaze, Baby Blue + Bitch Diesel.
11. Squeeze | Up The Junction | Cool For Cats
- Squeeze have just announced their first tour of Australia in some years. They'll be playing at The Forum on April 28th next year. Not sure if founding member Chris Difford will be joining them on this tour though.
12. Davey Lane | Bound To Break Me | I'm Gonna Burn Out Bright
- The most jangly pop-type tune from Davey's 2nd solo album which is released tomorrow. He'll be launching upstairs at the Gasometer Hotel tomorrow night w/The Girlatones.

14. The Likes Of You | Showbiz | For They Are Sailors Just Like You And Seasick Just The Same
