Andy Baylor and The Banksia Band - The Old Southern Line
Renowned Melbourne musician, Andy Baylor, releases his thirteenth independent release, The Old Southern Line, which offers up a colourful folk/roots sound that encapsulates the essence of Australian music making.
The album presents fourteen new songs and tunes; travelling tunes, songs about making art, Australia, talking birds, pilgrimages to Louisiana, yearning ballads, wistful melodies, and country surf - an entirely new genre. The polished, eclectic music draws together threads of 'roots music' styles including country, folk, Cajun fiddle music, old, deep blues and world music exotica; seamlessly weaving these into a contemporary Australian bar-room symphony.
His band, the Banskia Band, features a sweet string sound with the fiddles and violas of Sophie Dunn and Kate Connor, the mandolin, mando-cello and guitar of Sam Lemann, with Andy on electric surf, jazz-guitar, fiddle and vocals. This formidable front line is driven by percussionist / producer Denis Close’s exotic world percussion, the bass of Kain Borlaise and Sharkey Ramos’ masterful jazz drumming.
Andy is one of Australia’s most highly respected independent roots musicians, known for his multi-instrumental skills, song-writing and versatility. He has worked with the who’s who of Australian music, and toured with and supported many leading American musicians including Bob Dylan and Robert Plant, to name but a few.
