AWME’s (Australasian Worldwide Music Expo) fifth anniversary will be marked by one of Australia’s biggest line-ups of global roots music, with 60 world-class acts performing over four days and nights from 15th – 18th November 2012.
AMWE is thrilled to announce that this year’s music program will feature Nigeria’s scorching Afrobeat outfit Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, a gospel infused journey of life with Archie Roach’s ‘Into The Bloodstream’, original Jamaican roots vocal group The Abyssinians, Melbourne’s incendiary funk-soul outfit The Bamboos, Indigenous rock-reggae trailblazers The Bart Willoughby Band, leading light of Australia’s alt-country scene Jordie Lane, New Zealand soul diva Ladi6, alt-acoustic bluesman Charlie Parr (USA), groove-driven electronic Indigenous roots outfit OKA, electronic dub masters Iration Steppas (UK), and founder of the legendary Sofrito Tropical Warehouse parties Hugo Mendez (UK).
The award winning singer-songwriter Clare Bowditch, pioneer of London’s new generation of dub Hollie Cook, and Mandingo-based bluesman Boubacar Traoré from Mali have also recently been added to the mammoth AWME 2012 line-up. Along with Israel’s acclaimed Ladino singer Yasmin Levy, Indigenous soul-funk groover Dave Dow, Breabach from Scotland, and Christine Salem from Reunion Island.
As well as presenting a strong public festival event, AWME creates a platform for musicians from the region to access music industry representatives from around the world. AWME will shortly be announcing the inclusion of some high profile keynote speakers as part of this year’s Conference Program. The sessions will provide a glimpse at the workings of the music industry, with candid tales from some of the figureheads of the scene.
