PBS 106.7FM is proud to announce the third iteration of Beasts of No Nation – a special event paying tribute to Fela Kuti featuring The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra plus special guests at Corner Hotel on Saturday September 8.
The event, presented by Stani Goma of PBS show Flight 1067 to Africa, will see The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra joined on stage by an amazing line up of Australian Indigenous guest vocalists including Lois Olney, Bunna Lawrie, Philly, Racerage, Robbie Thorpe and Bart Willoughby, as well as Olugbade Okunade, ex-member of Fela’s band, who will be onstage performing all of Fela’s parts. Fela’s daughter, Yeni Kuti, legendary dancer, choreographer and originator of the Afrobeat tradition, will also join the celebrations all the way from Lagos.
The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra come together with Australian Indigenous voices to explore Fela’s message of freedom, and how it intersects with the continuing struggle for indigenous rights here in Australia.
Beasts of No Nation is named after Fela Kuti’s final studio album, a poignant reminder that 20 years later his music remains as relevant and powerful as ever… Music Is The Weapon!
Tickets are $25+BF for members and $30+BF for future members. If you're a PBS member and want to purchase tickets, email events@pbsfm.org.au for your discount code.
