PBS 106.7FM is very proud to announce Beasts of No Nation – a special event paying tribute to Fela Kuti featuring The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra.
The event, presented by Stani Goma of Flight 1067 to Africa, will see the Public Opinion Afro Orchestra and special guests including Remi, Sensible J, Cazeaux O.S.L.O and Olugbade Okunade deliver an exclusive, one-off performance dedicated to afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti – one of the most celebrated and audacious artists of the 20th century, who continuously put his life on the line for his music and what he believed in.
The seventeen-piece orchestra comprises some of Melbourne’s finest musicians and powerful MCs, whose tribal rhythms and West African grooves will bring contemporary African funk to the Evelyn dancefloor while always remaining faithful to the message of afrobeat.
Plus, PBS’ own DJ Manchild (The Breakdown) will keep the party going with funk vinyl selections and guest percussionists ‘til the early hours of the morning.
Beasts of No Nation is named after Fela Kuti’s final studio album, and serves as a poignant reminder that almost 20 years after the musician’s death, Fela’s music is as powerful and relevant as ever. This event will follow a month-long tribute to the musician on Flight 1067 to Africa, lovingly curated by longterm PBS presenter Stani Goma.
