The Melbourne benefit will be held at Bennetts Lane jazz club in the city the following week on Sunday September 1. An equally impressive roll-call of musicians donating their services includes Paul Grabowsky (solo piano), Italian saxophonist Mirko Guerrini, saxophonists Jamie Oehlers, Wilbur Wilde, Julien Wilson, David Rex, Ken Schoeder, Phil Noy and Ian Chaplin, drummers Allan Browne, Niko Schauble and Sam Bates, bassists Phil Rex and Mark Elton, and the Jex Saarelaht Trio. A trio of Browne, Rex and Noy will open playing some of McGann’s compositions, as will the group Bopstretch.
Prizes donated for a Silent Auction include Gold Passes from the Melbourne Jazz Festival (valued at $1,000) and Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Festival (valued at $350), the Australian Jazz Real Book donated by editor Dr Tim Nikolsky, CD albums from Rufus Records and JazzHead, as well as numerous local albums.
