Black Jesus Experience (BJX) is a community of musicians pumping out an irresistibly danceable array of traditional Ethiopian song and 21st century groove. BJX’s music reflects the multicultural vibrancy of the band’s hometown, Melbourne.
When not touring, BJX run a weekly session at The Horn African Cafe & Restaurant in Collingwood, creating new songs live on stage featuring guest musicians who fuse elements of hip hop, jazz, funk with the Azmari musical tradition of the Ethiopian Highlands. For our next Studio 5 presentation, we bring you a special set that BJX recently recorded for Channel 31’s MUUZOstream. This set includes teasers from BJX’s upcoming seventh album, Good Evening Black Buddha, a double LP that’s due for release in September on Agogo Records. The album features such guest musicians as proud Kuku Nyunkal man Sean Ryan on yiki-yiki, powerhouse singers Vida-Sunshyne and Gracie Sinclair, and Endalkachew Yenehun on masinko and kraar.
Tune in to Flight 1067 to Africa on July 31 to hear this entire session ahead of the release of BJX’s exciting seventh album.
