Wuigada was named and developed by the highly acclaimed indigenous singer songwriter, Kutcha Edwards. Wuigada in Mutti Mutti means 'to sing'.
In this edition of Wuigada we hear from proud Noongar man of the Wardandi Bibbulmun nation, Jarred Wall, also known as Boox Kid.
Boox Kid is a beat creator delivering unique melodies, harmonies, instrumentation. 'When I was a young boy' was premiered by WA community radio station RTRfm in early 2021. The song received rotation on RTRfm, triplej, FBi radio, 4zzz and placement on Spotify’s Deadly Beats, New Music Friday AU &NZ and First Sounds Volume 5.
Since then Boox Kid has gone on to perform at numerous festivals including Perth Festival in 2022. As with many artists profiled in Wuigada, Boox Kid is a versatile cross genre artist, taking to the stage in October 2021 performing in Koolbardi Wer Wardong in the primary role of Wardong. Written by Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse and sung in First Nation Noongar language, Koolbardi Wer Wardong received rave reviews.
Boox Kid’s latest single 'G.F.Y' features Perth powerhouse Alter Boy and was released in August 2021.
We asked Boox Kid what he has been up to since then.
'I recently participated in a 3 day song writing and production camp in Sydney called RESONATE at Studios 301. RESONATE is a project facilitated by APRA’S National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO). The camp was all First Nations artists and was an amazing experience, writing with the likes of up and coming artists such as Cloe Terare, Jem Cassar-Daley and many more. Should be some sweet tunes coming out of this experience. Aside from that, I will also be releasing two tracks in late June/early July titled ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘The Battle’, can’t wait for everyone to hear the new tracks.'
We asked Boox Kid to put his own music aside and tell us about a song that he has a particular connection to.
'It’d be remiss of me not to mention Uncle Archie Roach; the album Charcoal Lane is iconic and there are so many songs I could mention. My mother is a part of the stolen generation, so the story telling resonates deeply. One that I feel is just beautiful though is ‘Summer of my Life’. Enduring love, it reminds me of loved ones that have since passed and how those persons pass through your life and leave an everlasting impression.'
