This week's PBS Feature Album is Solitary Transmissions by Brown Spirits, the local trio inspired by 1970s krautrock, psych, free-jazz and deep funk.
Live, the band endeavours to take the listener on a journey of psychedelic improvisations, jazz flavoured freak-outs and extended krautrock jams that transcend genres almost seamlessly. Space-echo addled guitar sits with an explosive rhythmic approach to drumming and motorik basslines, seeing the band’s latest music expand into new territory with intermittent explorations of electric-piano flavoured ambience and free-jazz soundscapes.
Early 2023 saw world-renowned UK label Soul Jazz Records release two new 45s for the band which sold out in a few hours. Subsequently, Soul Jazz signed Brown Spirits exclusively and have scheduled their latest album Solitary Transmissions for a global release on May 12.
