Congratulations to Ian Stanistreet OAM, former PBS station manager (1982-1988) and CEO of the Community Broadcasting Foundation, who was awarded the Medal of Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to broadcast media on January 26, 2025. The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service and exceptional achievement.
Ian Stanistreet began his community radio journey at PBS in 1980 as a volunteer broadcaster. He later became the station’s first manager, serving from 1982 to 1988. During his tenure, Ian played a pivotal role in shaping the station’s operations. He recruited sponsors, subscribers (now known as members), and staff, secured transmission facilities with a collective of community radio stations, and oversaw the station’s relocation from the POW to the Park Lake building. His contributions didn’t stop there—he achieved so much more!
While PBS is just one chapter in Ian’s remarkable radio story, his impact on our station is immense. A heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Ian Stanistreet OAM for his service to broadcast media.
