I think that regular listeners will be aware of my love for compilations (Note from Maddy: Especially Retrospective ones!!) and this latest one from Festival Records is an absolute beauty! It’s having a look at the beginnings of the fusion of Country and Rock. Gram Parsons is generally regarded as one of the originators of the genre and unsurprisingly, he appears on this release with $1000 Wedding. However, there’s also a few from slightly left field including The Charlatans, David Crosby, The Everly Brothers and even The Monkees! You will be familiar with most of the artists but some of the song choices are not as obvious such as The Band’s Whispering Pines, The Byrds’ Chestnut Mare and Bob Dylan & The Band’s Yea! Heavy And A Bottle of Bread. It is a fantastic compilation though and not many slow moments over the 2cd’s.
