Courtney Barnett’s recent third album Things Take Time, Take Time is a relaxed, confident record filled with pithy, deep songs, delivered with Courtney’s trademark deadpan humour. It was easy for us to choose it as a PBS Feature Album. On top of being a great album, it also made us think back to Courtney's 2014 Drive Live performance and we thought a revisit was in order.
Radio City announcer, Crispi, is a massive fan and has followed Courtney’s career from the very beginning. He notes that 2014 was a critical time in her career:
"At that time, she had only released two EPs – 'I've Got A Friend Called Emily Ferris' and 'How To Carve A Carrot Into A Rose' – and was still over a year away from releasing her debut album, Sometime I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit. Although she was still playing regularly in Melbourne, international acclaim had occurred the previous year with the release of A Sea Of Split Peas (the first two EPs released together) and specifically the song ‘Avant Gardener,’ which she would perform live on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in April 2014, a mere two months after her PBS Drive Live performance".
Crispi adds that Courtney’s Drive Live set "shows Courtney perform 3 songs from her early EPs and captures her at the point in her career just before she was catapulted into international stardom".
So pencil Thursday December 23 into your diary and tune in to Radio City from 1pm to hear Courtney Barnett’s Drive Live 2014 session.
