Every year, Melbourne’s thriving music community comes together to celebrate songwriting and music in all its forms at the Darebin Music Feast. This rich and diverse collection of musical events of all genres is built on the philosophy that music brings people together. It is a joyous means of engaging and uniting the community.
The 2013 Music Feast will run from Wednesday 18 to Sunday 29 September and present over 150 events, in over 10 venues throughout Northcote, Thornbury, Preston and Reservoir including loads of free events.
‘The Bain Marie’:
New initiatives for 2013 include the creation of a sizzling festival hub bar. Named ‘The Bain Marie’, the 200 capacity bar will be housed in the Northcote Town Hall Civic Square. Entrance to the bar will be free and will present a broad selection of music, kid friendly lunchtime gigs, open decks vinyl sessions and the inaugural community participation music competition ‘The House Hoods’.
A blend of craft brewers, spirit and wine makers have been carefully selected to stock the bar and are excited to deliver educational tastings and showcases of their tailor made products. Partners include East 9th Brewing Co. with Doss Blockos, Fog City Red Sangria, Lick Pier Ginger Beer, Golden Axe Cider, West Winds Gin, 666 Pure Tasmanian Vodka and Tequila Tromba.

‘Feast Specials Board’:
Feast also takes over Northcote Town Hall, Main Hall with a selection of free and tickets events.
‘Feast Specials Board’ program includes the Melbourne premier of Hail to the King, an all-female fronted Elvis revue headlined by Kira Puru and Mojo Ju Ju. Direct from sell-out shows at Sydney’s Vanguard Theatre.
Iconic Darebin music venues such as the Northcote Social Club, Open Studio, The Wesley Anne and Thornbury Theatre will run shows nightly including local and touring artists plus special events.
‘Street Feast’:
The new ‘Street Feast’ program strand will utilise public spaces for performances, pop-up interactions and roaming entertainment throughout the festival. Don’t miss the fun of ‘Banana Island’ with karaoke caravan the S.S. SingSong, buskers’ stage, food trucks and banana loungers.
