David Garnham & the Reasons to Live craft country tinged ballads about booze and women, fueled by isolation and self-loathing. Twisted love, the human condition and gin feature prominently in songs laden with candour and heartbreak.
DG&TRTL's debut album ‘Love Inside a Jar’, produced by Charles Jenkins and Justin Rudge, has been described as “the start of a substantial career” by the Courier Mail, and pulled in the accolades of multiple NT song of the year awards, as well as winning the Americana category in the International Songwriting Competition.
Some of them live in Darwin, some in Alice, but all in squalor.
The band is in Melbourne for February, scattered amongst other shows, playing the Yarra every Thursday.
“Garnham weaves love, loss, heartbreak and humour into his own particular brand of whisky-soaked nostalgia, awash with alt-country contradictions that are all his own; sweet and hard, buoyant and punchy, redemptive and sad.” - Jenni Kauppi, the AU review
