Plutonic Lab Deep Above the Noise (PBS feature record)
This this the fourth episode of Pluto as a solo artist, courtesy of Wax Museum Records. Album artwork is by the gifted photographer, Nicole Reed. Resplendent in a gate-fold package, Nicole projects a vision of Asamovian wonder on the inner sleeve. Pluto on the front cover is reminiscent of both hapless adventurers Sam Bell or George Taylor.
As with each previous episode, this offering produces a new and fresh drum sound with so much snap, bounce and thump.The mastering alone leaves the sound polished and crisp. Evidence is this can be found in the head melting track "Pushin". Then we have "Sirens" a fitting interlude that leads on to "Cold Light" that canters in with utopian splendor. A largely instrumental album, there also includes some worthy vocal features. You can't miss the superb cut featuring Motor City's finest, Guilty Simpson with "The Crib". And with the addition of Tokyo's Coma-Chi on "Path to Satori", it concludes another solid release by the Melbourne maestro.
This long player will have galactic appeal, for beat heads and Hip-Hop heads alike. Heads will nod. Heads will bounce. Heads will roll.

Tracy McNeil and the GoodLife Thieves (Featured on The Breakfast Spread)
The new album from Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife is an absolute stunner - beautiful harmonies, melodies and clever arrangements make Thieves an album that you will listen to over and over again. Tracy started writing the album in Canada, around the time her father passed away. As a result, you can hear that each song comes from a deeply personal place. For Tracy that emotion has come out in the form of an album packed with raw energy, where punchy songwriting is met with driving rhythms and accentuated with gorgeous harmonies to create something that feels like the start of a new beginning. In there you can hear an early 1970's California sound, but Tracy McNeil & The GoodLife have put their own stamp on it to make this one of the stand out recordings of the year.
