Fly My Pretties will perform for the very first time in Australia as part of their fourth tour.
A rotating and inspired collective of musicians with an ethos of mixing established and well-known performers with undiscovered and up-and-coming talent, over the years Fly My Pretties has welcomed into the fold members of New Zealand’s most respected bands that include: Trinity Roots, The Phoenix Foundation (Samuel Flynn Scott and Luke Buda), Head Like A Hole, Cassette, Flying Nun greats The Hasselhoff Experiment and songstress, Hollie Smith.
This year’s 16-strong cast features an impressive selection of kiwi talent including:
Mike Fabulous, Nigel Patterson & Jarney Murphy (all The Black Seeds)
Fran Kora (Kora)
Justin “Firefly” Clarke (The Woolshed Sessions / Fat Freddy’s Drop collaborator)
L.A. Mitchell (Dave Dobbyn / Dukes)
Aaron Tokona (Cairo Knife Fight / WETA)
Age Pryor (Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra / Woolshed Sessions)
Ryan Prebble (Spartacus R & The Nudge)
James Coyle & Iraia Whakamoe (both The Nudge)
Anna Coddington, Flip Grater, Eva Prowse & Amiria Grenell (all successful solo artists).
First entering New Zealanders’ hearts and minds in 2004, Fly My Pretties began with a daring objective spearheaded by The Black Seeds front man, Barnaby Weir and Loop’s Mikee Tucker: To meet, exchange ideas, and then perform and record the results in front of a live audience. Fly My Pretties performed their first season at Wellington’s Bats Theatre over five nights. It was a hit, and Fly My Pretties became Bats most attended event of 2004. Likewise, the album Live at Bats achieved platinum-status, received 6 B-Net nominations (winning Best Pop Album).
Since then, the collective has organically evolved, touring, recording and releasing two more critically acclaimed live recorded albums – 2006’s The Return Of… and 2009’s A Story and in doing so, grown to become a local legend. They’ve played to over 100,000 fans collectively, sold over 40,000 albums and along the way, picked up numerous awards and accolades.
For the very first time, the musical collective will be venturing overseas to play one rare Melbourne date as part of their fourth tour. Performing at Melbourne’s historical, Athenaeum Theatre, on Saturday 5th November, Fly My Pretties will be bringing an impressive collective of musicians, a stunning stage show and boundary-pushing visuals, all of which will be captured live for their next album.
