Freya Josephine Hollick's new LP The Real World is this week's PBS Feature Album.
Australian cosmic country outlier, Freya Josephine Hollick journeyed to the California desert in 2019 to record her new body of work with Lucinda Williams’ band, Buick 6. In 2020, as the world fell into the grip of pandemia, the future road Freya saw so clearly back in the desert began to throw detours and cul-de-sacs, both physical and spiritual. It seems now, and on the final journey toward the release of The Real World, all of this metaphysical change elevated Freya as a songwriter, steeling her resolve to find her place in this new real world.
Freya embraces the privilege of having a voice that captures attention and uses it to address situations of spiritual sustenance. Like all great artists she is making us think about such things as the planet, the environment, societal unrest, the intimacy and complexity of our relationships, inclusiveness and empathy, the matters that continue to challenge our existence.
PBS Members have the chance to win a copy of the album on vinyl via this Tuesday's e-newsletter, so make sure you check your inbox! Please note that winners will be required to pick up their records from our Collingwood studios.
