Fri 1 Aug 2014

Performing at the magnificent Melbourne Town Hall on Friday 1st August will be The Thin Green Line Allstars – a supergroup comprised of Gotye, Tex Perkins and Nicky Bomba. This once in a lifetime showcase will see these three leading musos play some much-loved favourites from their own back catalogue of songs, as well as some surprising covers (with equally surprising guest artists.) If that’s not exciting enough, the largest organ in the Southern Hemisphere will also come into play and all attendees on the night will have the chance to win a trip to India!

The concert is taking place on World Ranger Day (August 1 2014) as a nod of respect to the park rangers of the world – many of whom are maimed or murdered in their line of duty. Though it may be a job we give little thought to – it is worth recognising that many rangers worldwide work for little (if any) pay and often at very great risk. Bravely protecting endangered species, rangers work in extremely poor conditions without many basic human rights such as shelter, food, clean water or security measures – all for the love of the places and animals they protect.

Passionate Thin Green Line ambassadors and Australian music champs are the key feature of the evening. Tex Perkins perhaps most recognised as frontman of The Cruel Sea (though he has performed with countless other acts and also released solo work); Gotye, fronted by the brilliant Wally de Backer who shot to fame with the success of 2011’s smash hit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ and Nicky Bomba, frontman for the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, and of funk reggae band Bomba, as well as former drummer and percussionist for The John Butler Trio.

Also appearing on the night will be Melbourne’s dizzyingly original folk darlings Tinpan Orange, folk festival favourite Damian Howard and a very special guest all the way from Hawaii, award winning singer, composer and slack key guitar playing sensation, Makana.

Sean Willmore, a park ranger from Victoria, founded the Thin Green Line Foundation in 2007 with the intention of raising awareness of the obstacles faced by park rangers, provision of training and equipment for rangers, as well as ongoing support for the wives and children often left desperate and destitute in the wake of these awful killings. Sean’s amazing journey to now 50 countries around the world to highlight the work of park rangers was featured in an episode of ABC’s Australian Story in 2007, with a follow-up episode due to air in July of this year. He is now also the President of the International Ranger Federation.

All proceeds from the night will go towards The Thin Green Lines Foundation’s work.
