Darren Sylvester unexpectedly launched onto the music scene with his debut album in 2009 which was originally written in 3 months as an accompaniment to an exhibition he had in GOMA in Queensland. Since then, Sylvester has honed his musical craft and his latest album Off By Heart expands on the 2009 sound and refines it. The songs are all smooth 80’s inspired pop songs and nobody in this city does it better than Sylvester. The album is earnest and wonderful, full of guitar solos and a heavy dose of synthesisers; this is a great addition to the Melbourne pop that we’ll all be listening to this summer. Standout tracks include ‘Fresh Face’ and ‘Too Hot For Love’ but the album is definitely better listened to as a whole.
