Nataly Dawn is an American singer/songwriter who has now released two solo albums, her latest being ‘How I Knew Her’.
Nataly’s sound is difficult to pin down to a specific genre - there’s something quite ‘Feist’ yet also quite ‘Joni Mitchell’ about her sound. The album has an acoustic jazz and blues foundation with creative song lyrics and a mixture of uptempo and laid back/ghosty type sounds.
The album opens with ‘Araceli’, a quirky upbeat track with an accompanying clip on her YouTube channel. As a contrast, the last track ‘I Just Wanted You To Grow Old’ is slower and more acoustic.
Nataly commenced an online fundraising campaign in mid 2011 through Kickstarter to raise money for the album. Her target was $20,000 - she raised this in the first three days. She eventually raised over $104k for the project.
The album was produced by Jack Conte, whom she met at Stamford - together they formed the indie-pop outfit Pomplamoose who specialised in pop covers.
Nataly has a very active social media presence with a content-rich YouTube channel and Facebook page. Her multi-instrumentalist and lyrical abilities make her 2nd solo album an interesting and engaging journey that is well worth a listen. ‘How I Knew Her’ is out through Nonesuch Records.
