PBS FM, The Espy and Love Police touring are pleased to announce the return of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, who are set to bring their unique and critically acclaimed show to the Espy Gershwin Room, Thursday July 26th.

Comprised of eight brothers straight out of Chicago's infamous South Side, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble make their first visit to Australia since their spellbinding HARVEST performance in 2011.

Fathered by the venerable Kelan Phil Cohran, himself a one-time member of Sun Ra's cosmic Arkestra, the boys were born into a family with a musical legacy that spanned their Chicago hometown and beyond. From the time they were 3 years old their father taught them Trumpet, Tuba, Drums, French Horn, Cornet and Trombone, and as they grew up throughout the 80s and 90s these young ambassadors of brass took to the streets and tourist hot-spots of Chicago where they honed their irrepressible blend of jazz, hip-hop, funk and soul.
After years of performing on streets and subways, their EPs and web clips saw them hit the big time, working with artists such as Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Gorillaz and Wu Tang’s Ghostface Killah to name a few.

From jazz to hip hop, they have reinvented the brass band for the 21st Century, and their reputation as a compelling live act is now a global one. Uplifting, exhilarating, infectious - make sure you don’t miss the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s Sydney headline show this coming July.
