Our ska, rocksteady and early reggae party Jamaica Jump-Up is back after a summer break with a massive line-up for a one-off fundraiser for the Alpha Boys School in Kingston, Jamaica.
Featuring live performances from none other than the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, The Ska Vendors and The Moonhops! Yes, THREE huge live sets from some of Melbourne’s most celebrated ska/rocksteady outfits.
Plus, selections by our own Mohair Slim (Blue Juice), Jesse I (Babylon Burning), Rick Howe (Riddim Yard) with guest selectors Systa BB (The Good, The Dub, The Global, 3RRR 102.7FM) and Fabulous Fez.
Stick Mareebo and Queen Jigzie will be joining forces to bring all the good vibes and take us through proceedings as MCs for the evening.
The Alpha Boys School has been providing schooling and vocational skills to underprivileged and troubled youth in Kingston for over a 130 years. Alpha is best known for having been the training ground for many important musicians and singers of ska, rocksteady, reggae, dancehall and jazz including Don Drummond, Dizzy Moore, Owen Gray, Johnny Osbourne, Desmond Dekker, Rico Rodriguez, Yellowman, Horsemouth Wallace, Eddie “Tan Tan” Thornton and dozens more.
As this an event very close to the hearts of musicians in the extended Jamaica Jump-Up family, ALL PROFITS from ticket sales will be donated to the school – plus there will be rare merch and vinyl available for purchase at an auction on the night.
As usual, the party will take place at our home turf The Gasometer Hotel, 9pm-3am.
For this very special event, ticket prices will be $20 for PBS members and $25 future members. Door sales only – get down early to avoid missing out!
