One of Spain’s most innovative instrumentalists, Jorge Pardo brings his seductive style of flamenco-jazz to Australia for the first time.

A unique voice in Iberian jazz with a solo career spanning a quarter-century, Pardo was crowned Best European Jazz Musician by the French Jazz Academy in 2012. He is a longstanding collaborator with luminaries such as Chick Corea and Paco de Lucia, and has performed and recorded with artists as diverse as Pat Metheny, Camerón de la Isla, Jeff Ballard and Tomatito.

His drive for new ideas sees him incorporate influences from across the globe, including Spanish classical music and the folk rhythms of Africa, the Caribbean and Cuba. His latest project, “Huellas”, explores the colours, emotions and interaction between the two rich traditions of jazz and flamenco in what will be an irresistible, impassioned and intoxicating performance adventure.

An unconventional, freethinking virtuoso of the acoustic bass guitar, Christopher Hale is widely respected as “a remarkably talented and versatile young bassist and an enormously gifted composer and arranger” (The Age). Hale’s subtle and powerful mastery of the six-string acoustic bass is characterised by a complex harmonic awareness, formidable rhythmic strength and heartfelt melodicism.

Convening a dynamic and cutting-edge group of close musical colleagues, Sylvan Coda reaches deep into Hale’s upbringing in Flamenco, jazz and rock music, to create a lush sound of exquisite lyricism and complex rhythmic cycles showcasing the bold, progressive Flamenco dance of Johnny Tedesco.
