Makaya McCraven's album In These Times is this week's PBS Feature Album.
A triumphant finale of a project 7+ years in the making, In These Times is a preeminent addition to prolific drummer, composer, and producer Makaya McCraven’s extensive discography. A collection of polytemporal compositions inspired as much by broader cultural struggles as McCraven’s personal experience. Encompassing all he’s lived through, as well as his lineage, while also pushing the music forward.
McCraven believes that the word 'jazz' is “insufficient, at best, to describe the phenomenon we’re dealing with”. McCarven, who has been aptly called a “cultural synthesizer”, has a unique gift for collapsing space, destroying borders and blending past, present, and future into poly-textural arrangements of post-genre, jazz-rooted 21st century folk music.
PBS Members have the chance to win a copy of the album on vinyl via this Tuesday's e-newsletter, so make sure you check your inbox! Please note that winners will be required to pick up their records from our Collingwood studios.
