Friends of Mel (Melissa) McNamara have arranged a special show at the Croxton Bandroom on Friday 7th April to show their support as she battles a third round with cancer, called MEL FEST. Lending their talents on the night will be Paul Dempsey performing solo and acoustic, the Glenn Richards Five Piece, Dan Kelly on his own-some, cancer survivor Dan Brodie and Krista Polvere, as well as some special surprise guests to be revealed on the night.

Mel McNamara moved to Melbourne from Adelaide almost 20 years ago and quickly became friends with many musicians working as a photographer before moving in to magazine production. Mel’s husband Andrew “Skipper” Skim is also actively involved in live music as a lighting technician for Augie March as well as the Meredith and Golden Plains festivals, even whilst the couple relocated to New York for ten years, their visits coincided with the events. They are now back in Melbourne with their young family and the return of breast cancer has been even tougher than before.

One of the friends behind MEL FEST is singer songwriter Krista Polvere, who also relocated to Melbourne from Adelaide and spent time in the USA in between. Krista felt helpless when Mel was diagnosed with cancer again but wanted to do something to show support and give her friend a special night to look forward to. “Having her closest mates by her side is helping Mel a great deal. She's the kindest soul I've ever met and has been there for me consistently in so many ways. Our friendship is unique and there are some people who you know your lives are meant to be shared with forever. Thanks for being my rock Mel I hope I'm being yours,” said Krista Polvere.
