On August 4, The Push will launch the FReeZACentral 2011 compilation Mixtape at The East Brunswick Club with Jen Cloher, Davey Lane, Angie Hart and more!

Cloher, Hart and Lane who are all mentors in this year’s FReeZACentral Mentoring Program feature on the FReeZACentral Mixtape compilation along with all of this year’s performance mentees and mentors. This year’s annual compilation, out with the July issue of triple j magazine showcases the talents of some of Victoria’s finest independent artists, as well as the freshest new talent the state has to offer!

Along with Hart, Cloher’s “Endless Sea” and Lane’s “Pictures”, you’ll be treated to tracks by Skipping Girl Vinegar, The Bedroom Philosopher, House Vs Hurricane, Grand Salvo, Shihad, Ashley Naylor, Disaster!, Cola Wars, Mick Thomas, Lloyd Spiegel, The Abandonment and Be'Lakor. Likewise, some of Victoria’s best upcoming musical protégés will strut their stuff, including: Brighter At Night, 8 Bit Love, John Lingard, Josh Romig, The Red Jane Show, Ellen Kibble, Ennui Breathes Malice, Infected, No Love For Lexi, Since We Kissed, Seconds, Siobhan, Sons of Messengers, Stephen Bowtell Band and Yokey.

Since 2004, FReeZACentral, a Victorian Government Program has annually mentored around 50 young Victorians aged 18 to 25 across five streams including: Performance, Music Business, Technical Production, Marketing & Publicity and Event Management.

Northcote based, second time FReeZACentral mentor Jen Cloher says she has been once again, “blown away by the quality of the song-writing talent in Victoria”.

“Listening to the compilation it's impossible to pick the mentors from the mentees! There's no better way to learn than by asking someone who has gone before you, the handing down of knowledge in the arts is extremely important. We need to make sure it continues to happen.”
Burwood-based 2011 FReeZACentral graduate performer John Lingard who will be playing at the launch alongside his fellow graduates Siobhan and Yokey, says the Mixtape compilation is “priceless exposure”.

“My entire experience with the FReeZACentral mentoring program has been very eye opening. I've learnt to push more - there's so much help available out there for aspiring musicians you just have to check your peripheral vision."

Hoppers Crossing based 2011 FReeZACentral graduate performer Adrian Burruto a.k.a. Yokey says the program has given him “a new confidence to push harder” at getting his art to high standard.

“There are so many highlights which came from the program such as getting my song ‘Green’ produced by Jeff Lang and having it released nationally on the cover of triple j magazine. However, the greatest thing which I took from the program was community - and that’s something which will last after the program concludes.”
