Sat 28 May 2011 to Sun 29 May 2011

The National Gallery of Victoria is turning 150 this year and to celebrate, everyone is invited to a huge community event on the weekend of 28 and 29 May.

Over the NGV 150 pARTy weekend, the Gallery will bring the Collection to life in amazing and creative ways. There will be free activities for people of all ages including live music and roving performers.

Both NGV locations will be open late on Saturday 28 May. There will be live music until midnight for NGV pARTy after dark at NGV International, featuring an awesome line up of bands and roving entertainment including ARIA award winner Dan Sultan and Melbourne’s favourite funk band, The Bamboos. This event is not to be missed!

On Saturday, NGV Australia at Federation Square will showcase emerging young performers along with a seductive cabaret featuring some of Melbourne’s hottest Indigenous artists until 9pm.

Dr Gerard Vaughan, Director, NGV said: “We will also be bringing NGV 150 pARTy onto the street with The NGV Journey, a series of exciting installations inspired by some of the NGV’s most popular works of art. These creations will astound and delight you!”

The NGV Journey, generously supported by the City of Melbourne, will create a pathway between NGV International on St Kilda Road and NGV Australia at Federation Square. Developed especially for the NGV by renowned performer and artistic director, Robyn Archer AO, and presented in a wide variety of media by artists and communities throughout Victoria, this will be a once in a lifetime event.
