“I hope this event brings people together who do not normally come together. I hope people will be moved and uplifted and inspired and healed by the music we make. And I hope we raise a sh*t load of money that can be used directly for research into this devastating disease.”

That, in a nut shell, is Abby Dobson’s plan for her September 24 performance “A Night to Remember” at the Thornbury Theatre, proceeds of which will go to The Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF).

Abby, formerly lead singer for acclaimed Australian band Leonardo’s Bride, has just returned to Sydney after a creative, occasionally tequila infused, songwriting stint in Paris.
But before she launches her new solo album, Abby is looking forward to joining with five other Australian artists at the ambient theatre in Thornbury, Melbournefor what she describes as a “wonderful evening of song and sisterhood and generosity.”

Supporting artists include Bernadette Carroll, Mandy Wragg, Amanda Grafanakis, and cover band Neva2L8, with the original all-female line up diversified by the latest singer/songwriter to be signed to the event, Ben Jackson.

Tickets start at $35 plus booking fee, and every donation dollar received by the Australian Cancer Research Foundation goes to world-class cancer research.

“We’ve all been affected either directly or indirectly by cancer,” said Abby. So when Melbourne local and event organiser Debs Herbert asked Abby to be part of “A Night to Remember”, Abby couldn’t say no.

“One of my closest friends died two years ago. Right now there are three people in my life who are battling cancer, and I too have had a close call with the disease.”
Debs Herbert echoed Abby’s sentiments: “This event is for people to remember those they have lost to cancer or those who have survived, and it is to help in finding a cure by hopefully raising a lot of money for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.”
