Let's cut with the formalities, yes - lets make this announcement informal as possible. The Obits from Brooklyn (NY) are but a mildly mannered, grammatically groomed, garage-punk-rock four
piece, who have courageously decided to geographically align their axes (err...guitars) south of the equator for the very first time.
Long held dreams of watching water spiral down a sink the other way, driving on the correct side of the road, using three pronged electricity plugs (instead of two)- will finally be realised. This is a joyous state of affairs – they'll be no tears from these Obits.
As a band, Obits are but wee infants, yet, as a music collective they have a resplendently long pedigree. Fronted by singer/songwriter Rick Froberg (Hot Snakes), the band have two album releases on the suitably pedigreed SubPop label, I Blame You (2007), Moody, Standard and Poor (2011), distributed by Inertia in Australia.
With a stripped-down rock sound, incorporating elements of surf and garage, the bands epertoire of threeminute yowlers, sutures a sweet symbiotic sound. The Obits – by the members' own admission, are a straight-forward proposition. To simply rock you some and to roll you some.
Sounds like the Ramones meets the Replacements, with a bit of Wire & the Wipers.
