Ocean From Above is the third album from Melbourne band Seagull, and their first release on Two Bright Lakes. Chris Bolton's imaginative and visual narratives curl through the textured instrumentation Seagull is so well known for. The attention to texture is enhanced through guest musicians; Natasha Rose on harp, Alice Honman on cello, Peter Emptage on double bassist, Ruby Fielder on clarinet and vocals.
This is a more subdued and more delicate album than the preceding Council Tree, and is an album well worth spending time with. In this sense it's a reward - the more time and space we allow ourselves to experience Ocean From Above, the more detail, strength, and beauty reveal itself.
