For the Saturday arvo head down to the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate on Napier Street in Fitzroy for the free all ages event ‘Spectacle’. As part of National Youth Week which finishes up this Monday, the City of Yarra is literally throwing us all a Spectacle. The day includes live music, DJ’s, spoken word, dance performances and profits will go toward helping the Yarra’s basketball team to play in the South Sudanese Australian Basketball comp. Get there for a 10am start with a finish looking at around 4pm.
There’s a few really great art shows on this weekend including the opening night this Saturday of Ash Keating: Selected Works 2005 – 2015 at Benalla Art Gallery. The exhibition features abstract paintings that gesture toward landscape tradition. It will be running until the 28th of June and details can be found at www.blackartsproject.com.au. Sunday the 19th is the last day to see Alex Prager at NGV who is showcases her ridiculously talented photography in stills and film. It’s free and runs from 10am – 5pm and details of the artist and exhibit can be found at www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhibition .
