This week's feature album comes from local pub-punk kingpins Private Function with their second LP Whose Line Is It Anway?.
Recorded during COVID lockdown by Matt Duffy (Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Bench Press, Moody Beaches) Whose Line Is It Anyway? is a cavalcade of formidable punk-rock numbers and timeless pub-rock anthems imbued with Private Function’s trademark satire, epitomising the grandeur of rock’n’roll in all its forms.
Walloping hooks, thumping rhythm sections and embellished guitar solos meld impeccably with overzealous, Spinal Tap-esque rock’n’roll theatricality, stadium-sized choruses and the band’s characteristic oddball humour – while still maintaining the tumultuous looseness and tongue-in-cheek irreverence that Private Function are famous for.
Private Function makes music for everyone – from skate punks to truckers, rock-dogs to glamour girls, barflies and beyond. Over their three-year career, the band has amassed legions of devoted fans, hooked on their livewire intensity, belter songs, explosive live shows, outrageous stage presence and outlandish comedic flair. Yet all jokes aside, Private Function are a band that should be taken very seriously.
