Reclink Australia is excited to announce Australia’s fastest rising hip-hop act REMI and art and destruction favourites, Boxwars have been added to the 24th annual Melbourne Reclink Community Cup on Sunday 25 June. For the first time the Melbourne Reclink Community Cup is coming north side to its new home at Victoria Park.
REMI and musical collaborator, Sensible J’s appeal is as diverse as it is impressive. They have performed their own sold out headline tours across Europe and Australia. They have shared stages with Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown, Vic Mensa, De La Soul, Joey Bada$$, Blackalicious, Hiatus Kaiyote and have performed Gorillaz tracks with Damon Albarn on his last Australian tour. REMI is currently touring his sophomore LP ‘Divas & Demons’ which was independently released through their own label, House of Beige Records.
Boxwars has impressed audiences all over Australia including Womadelaide, Enlighten, Big Day Out, Boogie, Stereosonic, Sydney Festival, Boogie and many more. Boxwars has also built props, including the Aria nominated video & triple j’s best video of 2016 for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard ‘Vulture People’. Straight off the back of achieving a Guinness World Record for an 8km cardboard castle, Boxwars will bring its corrugated absurdity to the 2017 Melbourne Reclink Community Cup.
Reclink Australia is thrilled to announce the return of the most talked about iconic event on the community calendar – The Reclink Community Cup, is coming to the ‘Streets of Your Town’ in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart and Perth. Drawing on the song title by indie rock band The Go-Betweens this year’s theme ‘Streets of Your Town’ will be celebrated by each host city with their own unique enthusiasm and style.
The 24th annual Melbourne Reclink Community Cup promises to boast another year of family, fundraising, and of course footy, as the musos take on the media in the almighty clash of the Rockdogs (Musicians) and the Megahertz (Triple R 102.7FM & PBS 106.7FM).
Kick off begins on Sunday 25 June, when the Melbourne leg will settle into its new home at Collingwood’s heart of football, Victoria Park, bringing the good-vibing, winter-braving, sports-loving punters back north to the broadcasters’ home turf, making this year’s theme ‘Streets of your Town’ by The Go-Betweens so absolutely fitting.
With footy at the helm of the Cup, the event is just as renowned for its incredible bill of pre-show, half time, and post match bands, with performances from some of the nation’s most beloved artists for both the little and big kids alike.
This year’s lineup will be no different with the Melbourne Reclink Community Cup hosting rock lords Spiderbait, acclaimed Melbourne trio The Peep Tempel, hometown favourite singer/songwriter Jen Cloher, with Aussie legends Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier and the gorgeous She Said Zed performing The Go-Betweens classic ‘Streets of your Town’, plus for the kids Murray Wiggle and Wally Meanie’s Bubblegum Machine.
2017 also welcomes a new national event sponsor Blundstone Australia, who are delighted and proud to be involved as a national partner: “The partnership with the Reclink Community Cup is a great fit for the homegrown, iconic brand Blundstone and leverages our support of Australian sports, music and arts for a good cause. We’re excited to kick off the National Tour and wish all the teams the best with their training,” said Adam Blake, Blundstone Global Head - Brand, Design and Community Engagement.
Most importantly, funds raised through the Reclink Community Cups support Reclink Australia’s work with disadvantaged communities across Australia. From its inception back in 1993, the Melbourne event now rallies more than 10,000 avid followers who collectively raise over $100,000 every year for the cause.
“This year’s theme is all about community, the importance of social inclusion, celebrating diversity and community belonging. After all, the streets of your town are the streets of our town.” said John Ballis, CEO, Reclink Australia. Reclink Australia delivers specialist sport, recreation and arts programs for at-risk youth, people with mental illness or disability, people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence, and those facing alcohol, gambling, and substance addictions.
So brave the cold and get amongst it this winter, with $20 gate entry for big kids and just $5 for the under 16s, it’s sure to be a cracking day.
