by Old Crow Medicine Show

As soon as you hit play on Old Crow Medicine Show’s latest album Remedy, you’ll be up and dancing within minutes! Remedy walks a fine line between traditional bluegrass and country, but overall I’d say it’s more a bluegrass album. Tracks like ‘Tennessee Bound’ and ‘Sweet Home’ have certainly been written with a broader audience in mind, while the opening tracks ‘Brushy Mountain Conjugal Trail’ and ‘8 Dogs 8 Banjos’ for example hark back to OCMS’s more traditional sound. But the feature song is the first single ‘Sweet Amarillo’ which is yet another Keith Secor/Bob Dylan collaboration a la the band’s big hit ‘Wagon Wheel.’ Sweet Amarillo, which contains lovely harmonies and sweet fiddle playing from front man Ketch Secor was written from a song fragment he was given from the Pat Garret and Billy the Kid sessions. In sum, this album just works and in a way it may represent a mid-point between OCMS’s past and where they plan to go in the future. But regardless of where it’s placed in OMCS’s discography Remedy is a fun, well produced album that will appeal to music lovers across all genres.
