Tuxedo Self Titled (PBS Feature Record)
Mayer Hawthorne (Aquarius) and Jake One (Taurus) – two Grammy-nominated artists, and descendants of the one-word moniker family of funk, where you will find groups such as Chic, Shalamar, Plush and Zapp – have teamed up to release their debut album Tuxedo (Stones Throw Records).
The collaboration as Tuxedo began with an exchange of mixtapes back in 2006. The fruits of a long-standing kinship were three tracks that mysteriously showed up on internet doorsteps nearly two years ago. In between personal projects, these three tracks became a full album’s worth of Tuxedo. The album was mixed by original disco don dada John Morales at his home studio in South Plainfield, New Jersey. “I flew out there,” Mayer says. “He made me spaghetti and everything.”
Mathew E White Fresh Blood (Featured on The Breakfast Spread)
Matthew E White returns with a strong sophomore effort. In 2012, Matthew released his debut album Big Inner which was received with much deserved great acclaim. In the past two years, he’s been producing and releasing albums on his own Spacebomb Records including his own EP Outer Face. He has now finally returned with his second full-length Fresh Blood. There are certainly strong similarities in all three of his releases but this album contains a slightly fuller sound. This is most obvious in the driving first single 'Rock & Roll Is Cold' and the gospel sounds of 'Vision'. There is also a continuation of the laid back grooves of Big Inner on the opener 'Take Care My Baby' and 'Circle Round The Sun'.
