Get ready for an unforgettable night of music and activism as Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 take the stage at the Northcote Theatre on November 14, 2024.
Seun Kuti, a Nigerian musician, singer, and songwriter, is renowned for his captivating performances and socially conscious music. As the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, Seun has dedicated his life to preserving and extending his father’s political and musical legacy as the leader of the legendary band Egypt 80.
Seun's journey with Egypt 80 began before he turned 12, and he has been leading the band since 1997 after Fela's passing. An influential pan-African activist, Seun has been involved in campaigns like #OccupyNigeria and #EndSARS, and has revived the Movement of the People (M.O.P.), the political party founded by his father.
The performance at Northcote Theatre will feature music from Seun Kuti & Egypt 80’s highly anticipated new album, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), set to release on October 4 via Record Kicks. This album, arriving six years after the Grammy-nominated Black Times, marks a significant milestone in Seun's career. The album, executive produced by Lenny Kravitz and artistic producer Sodi Marciszewer, includes collaborations with Damian Marley and Sampa The Great.
Supporting Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 at the Northcote Theatre will be Melbourne’s own Afrobeat ambassadors, Alariiya, promising a unique Afrobeat Fiesta.
