by Killing Joke

Killing Joke, now in their 34th year, have just released an excellent double CD (and limited 3CD) celebrating their singles. It’s a great way of introducing yourself to the band if you are a newcomer, or for the serious Killing Joke fans (such as myself), this collection is a wonderful way of having their entire career singles compiled and in chronological order. There are few hiccups on this collection and it highlights what a great band Killing Joke are. There’s a great sense of musical diversity displayed here (over 33 tracks) and this collection successfully manages to show how Killing Joke have evolved musically over the years.

On listening to this collection, what you do pick up, is the fact that Killing Joke have always had a very unique sound that crosses many styles of music – post punk, goth, industrial, metal, hardcore, grunge and many more. Their musical ability, along with their ferocity and intensity is ably displayed by this collection. Just listen to tracks such as the early single ‘Wardance’, or a later track such as ‘Hosannas From The Basements Of Hell’, and you will understand!!! As a long time Killing Joke fan, I can thoroughly recommend this record.

As shown by their recent live performances, they have certainly not lost their intensity. Apparently they are currently recording their next studio album, due for release in early 2014. May Killing Joke always survive!!!!
