Soul music in Melbourne has arrived truly arrived! The groundswell that has been slowly building for the last decade has exploded into a modern music scene as varied and colourful as the city itself. Whether it’s Deep Funk, Neo Soul, Afrobeat, R&B, Bollywood, Spiritual Jazz or Northern Soul - Melbourne artists have taken the concepts and run with them, and the rest of the world is taking notice too.
Released November 9 by Northside Records/Fuse, The Soul of Melbourne is the sound of Melbourne’s exploding soul/funk/R&B/jazz scene. Compiled by Chris Gill and Lance Ferguson, The Soul of Melbourne features 18 tracks (including 4 previously unreleased tracks!) from the cream of the local scene including The Bamboos, Chet Faker, Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes, Saskwatch, Kylie Auldist, Electric Empire and more.
The Soul of Melbourne is the first compilation to showcase the modern Melbourne soul music renaissance and will undoubtably go down in history as a pivotal document of a vibrant musical community.
