by Tweedy
Jeff Tweedy has had quite a career. It started in the 80s and consolidated in the band Uncle Tupelo which later morphed into Wilco. Since 1995, Wilco have released eight studio albums and toured the world several times to great success. Their last album was released in 2011 and there had been expectations that a new album was on its way. As it turns out there was, but instead of it being by Wilco, Jeff has released Sukierae under the name Tweedy which is a collaboration with his son Spencer. Although the sound of the album isn't all that different to Wilco, it's no less amazing and Spencer has a fair bit to do with it. At only 18, his drumming skills are considerable, particularly on a couple of the rockier tunes such as World Away and Diamond Light Pt 1. The album also provides great contrast with some beautiful ballads like Down From Above and Nobody Dies Anymore and the lead single, Summer Noon, which I'm sure will be a staple on summer mix compilations for years to come! It might be a 20-song epic but there are no duds on this album. Although I say it a lot, Sukierae is without doubt one of my favorite albums of 2014!
