Six local independent musicians have been chosen to perform at the Melbourne heat of the Telstra Road to Discovery which is a national talent development program. Local muso’s will be competing for a tailor made 12-month prize package which includes the ultimate prize of performing in “global music city” Nashville USA.
Aspiring Melbourne musician Harry Hookey, winner of major performer category prize in January will perform at the Melbourne heat of the Telstra Road to Discovery. This free live music event will be held at Melbourne University, North Court (next to Union House), Cnr Elgin & Swanston Streets from 12.30pm on Tuesday 16 August.
The event will feature 6 local musicians battling it out for the heat winner title, plus local Melbourne musician Gena Rose Bruce (2011 finalist). Harry said the below about how the program has helped his music career: “It’s taken my music from a street corner in Melbourne to the main stage of The Basement in Sydney in a matter of months. It has taken my music to the ears of some highly respected musicians and industry people who have offered me really insightful advice on the music industry and how it works. Needless to say it has been a very fulfilling leap, and one that gives me hope I can make a career of doing what I so dearly enjoy.”
This free gig is a great opportunity to support local independent artists vying for their place in the next round of the competition, where one winning musician will be flown to Sydney in December.
