Melbourne art-pop outfit Tetrahedra are becoming increasingly recognised for their distinctive brand of ‘future pop math jazz’. Their off-kilter sound challenges genre, conjuring bustling dance floors while simultaneously leaving audiences joyfully perplexed. Described by Dom Alessio as "like Little Dragon jamming out a Hiatus Kaiyote tune", it’s easy to draw comparison between Tetrahedra and the likes of Björk, Little Dragon or Dirty Projectors.
A stellar 2016 saw the band release their debut EP Kinesphere to widespread acclaim throughout the Australian and international scene. The band then enlisted 5 beat artists to remix the EP with exceptional results. The end of the year saw a third release with a 2-track to cement their momentum.
With the generous support of both Australia Council for the Arts and Creative Victoria, 2017 saw Tetrahedra’s greatest project to date; a visual EP called SOMA. This release was created in collaboration with renowned artists Prue Stent and Honey Long, video artist Zoe Scoglio, choreographer Natalie Abbott, and artist Isabella Connelley. The result being 4 tracks with accompanying visuals that explore themes of dehumanising the physical form, and the aesthetics of naturalism and surrealism.
The leading single from SOMA, Either, was premiered in October of 2017 via Red Bull, receiving praise across the board, both nationally and internationally. Either was added to rotation on Double J and Triple J Unearthed, as well as receiving extensive airplay across community radio stations, and features in various blogs including Ripe, Double J and Niche Music (JPN). SOMA is set to be released in early 2018.
