Recently on PBS, one of Australia’s most revered and respected jazz broadcasters Gerry Koster announced that he’s decided to wind up his long running PBS radio show Dizzy Atmosphere.
Dizzy Atmosphere has been an institution on PBS for decades, interrupted only by a nine year run broadcasting under the title Jazz Up Late on ABC Classic FM and ABC Jazz. On both PBS, and with the national broadcaster, Gerry has explored an extraordinary breadth of content from all over the globe with a particular passion for Australian artists. PBS is the Progressive Broadcasting Service and nowhere has there been more progressive jazz and improvised music on free-to-air radio in this country.
Always the humble gentleman, Gerry has indicated that he doesn’t want to make a fuss and will instead present one final show next Sunday night, March 30. We encourage all PBS listeners, and all jazz fans to tune in and to express your gratitude via the PBS text line (0400 03 1067) during the show.
Soon we’ll announce the changes to our Sunday line-up but for the moment we’d like to celebrate the contribution and commitment Gerry has made to PBS, and to the appreciation of jazz and improvised music.
