It is with great sadness that PBS acknowledges the passing of Australian jazz legend, Don Burrows.

Don spent a lifetime as one of Australia's most celebrated jazz musicians, starting his career in Sydney in the 1940s and touring nationally and internationally. Widely respected for his role in setting up Australia's first jazz course at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Don has been a mentor and role model to many.

We were lucky enough to welcome Don to PBS a number of times over his long and distinguished career, and now we share some exclusive recordings from these performances.

This is the Don Burrows Quartet performing at PBS.

Don Burrows playing live at Queenscliff Music Festival in 2000 with his band, Matt Closely (bass) and Andy Gander (drums).

The tracks in the above recording are...

‘I've Never Been In Love Before’ from the film ‘Guys And Dolls’

'Maybe Tomorrow' from Burrows' album Eye To Eye

'Bulbinda', inspired by the rainforests of Northern Queensland. On this track Burrows plays the Alto Flute pitched in G.

'Yesterdays'

'Cloud'

'You Gotta Give To Get'

Tune in to Mystic Brew on Tuesday March 17 with Mike Gurrieri to hear a tribute to the late great Don Burrows.

To Don we say - thank you for the music. Rest in power.
