This double CD album (with Fold-out Poster) contains 28 of the very best cuts from the Éthiopiques series to form a unique document of this incredibly soulful, otherworldly and hypnotic music. The series (Produced by Francis Falceto) is a 27-volume which introduced the unique sounds of post-war Ethiopian and Eritrean soul, jazz and big bands to a grateful wider world.
The Paris-based world music record label Buda Musique began the series in 1997 and many of the CDs in the series compile various singles and albums that Amha Records, Kaifa Records, and Philips-Ethiopia released during the 1960s and 1970s in Ethiopia. This double album includes artists Mulatu Astatqe, Mahmoud Ahmed, Alemayehu Eshete, Tesfa-Maryam Kidane, Girma Beyene and more.
The album includes the much-sampled and classic 'Yegelle Tezeta' from Mulatu Astatke and the sublime 'Tezeta' from Tesfa-Maryam Kidane.
